Desktop Technician No More

Seeing as I'm going to be playing golf tomorrow in a company tournament instead of actually working, today was my last day as a desktop technician. Mainly a lot of packing and tying up of loose ends since I was on vacation since last Thursday. I'm really excited to be moving on to my new job as a web developer, but at the same time I'm a little nervous. Why? Because I was at the top of my game as a desktop technician -- and now I'm moving into something that, while I'm familiar with, I'm by no means an expert in. I've been here twice before, though...once when I moved from the Help Desk to Desktop Support and once again when I became the team lead. Who knows -- maybe in a year or so I'll be back on top.

Chirp! Chirp!

The past two evenings I have noticed that we apparently have a very vocal guest living in our garage -- and when I say a very vocal guest, I really mean to say the loudest damn cricket in the universe. I haven't been able to find him yet, but one day I shall and I'll either smoosh him or toss him out. Until then, he's going to continue chirping his little heart out in some unseen corner while I shake my fists and toss empty buckets around looking for him.

All I can say is thank tiny, infantile baby Jesus he's not actually in the house...

Bermuda, Bahama

Right now our backyard consists of Bermuda, St. Augustine and some sort of weed-like Bluegrass -- it's mostly green, but I'd really like for it to be one big lawn full of Bermuda grass. I know some people in Texas frown upon Bermuda (it's St. Augustine or nothing to them), but I love the look of a freshly mowed Bermuda lawn. We have one corner that is completely Bermuda, and when Selina saw it she envisioned herself making "grass angels" in it because it looked so good. If she didn't have her nice work clothes on and if she was assured that there wouldn't be any doggie doo-doo lurking beneath that lush green blanket, I'm sure she would have done it.

In an effort to reach that goal, I bought a bag of Bermuda grass seed and went to work on the lawn on Saturday afternoon. I was really hoping for some rain this week to help with the amount of watering I'm going to have to do in order to get the seeds to germinate and thrive, but it looks like Mother Nature is going to make me pay for the water instead of providing me with the free stuff. Oh well.
