My Favorite Things

Selina and I watched The Sound of Music earlier this evening on TV -- and everytime they sang My Favorite Things, I thought of the Will Ferrell SNL skit. Goulet!

Oh So Close!

Dang, why couldn't that Iraqi guy have landed at least one of those shoes on Bush's big, stupid face? Sure, it would have been a huge insult to our president (and probably our nation), but that goober deserves it.

Engagement Pictures

Selina and woke up bright and early this morning to meet with our wedding photographer, Carli, on the UT campus. Our appointment was supposed to be at 8:30AM, but we were busy trying to figure out why there were 5 police cruisers parked in front of our neighbor's house. We later found out that our neighbors were providing safe haven for a friend going through some domestic problems and that the "other person" showed up and started trying to drag vehicles out of the driveway using his big honkin' truck and a tow chain. Scary!

Anyway, back to the pictures...Selina and I got there at 8:40 since we lost track of time while peeking out of our upstairs window. Carli didn't have a problem with it (we had told her on the phone) and she used the extra 10 minutes to grab a much needed cup of coffee. We hooked up in front of the Co-op and then spent the next 2 hours being fabulous for the camera. Selina and I had a lot of fun and Carli took some awesome pictures. She posted a few of her favorite shots from our engagement shoot on her blog, so take a look for yourself.

I can't wait to see the full set!

Smile For The Camera!

Do the TxTag people look at the pictures taken at the toll booths only if you do something wrong? The reason I'm asking is because sometimes when I go through the toll plazas I make it a point to make some sort of crazy face as I'm driving through. My thinking is that, hey, someone out there may have a really boring job and maybe I just made them smile. Not likely, but nobody said I couldn't make faces just for the hell of it, either.

I was telling Selina the other day about my toll booth shenanigans when I had a great idea -- I need to purchase one of those "Nose and glasses" disguises and just leave it in my car so that I can slip them on every so often when I go through the toll booth -- and maybe even when I'm just driving around!

Nose and glasses disguise

As expected, she shook her head at me and gave me the "Ryan Tovar, you are one strange person" look. Dang, I can't have any fun...well, I guess I could, but only if Selina doesn't know about it. So if you ever see me in my disguise, shhh...don't tell Selina!

It's Snowing, Bitches!

Well, it's only sorta snowing. Us people down here in Texas get all excited when there are a few snow flakes floating down from the sky. I guess it's better than the sleet we were getting earlier. Too bad the flakes melt as soon as they hit the ground...can you believe that it was 81 outside earlier? Crazy.

How Did We Live Without HD?

To our surprise, the Samsung 32" LCD TV that I ordered from Crutchfield arrived a day early. The way the UPS guys delivered it was a little strange, though. They put the TV next to the front door, rang the doorbell, waited for us to turn the light on (it was about 7PM, so it was dark) and then took off without getting a signature. Hmmm, maybe they saw that we were home and that was good enough for them -- either that or Dakota scared them when she went running up to the door and barked at them with her German Shepard bark. Eh, who knows.

So now we have an HDTV downstairs in our living room. The picture quality of the over-the-air digital channels like ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX is outstanding. Some of the channels tend to drop since we are only using rabbit ears at the moment, but that will soon be resolved once I purchase this Philips Indoor/Outdoor Antenna, mount it outside and then connect it to the pre-existing house wiring. After that, we should be able to pick up all of the digital channels in Austin without any signal loss or dropout.

Sure, we still miss not having cable, but this makes having just an antenna a whole lot better. I can't wait until we can afford the 42" LCD (the size we really wanted prior to Selina getting laid off) so that we can move this baby up to the bedroom.

The Forbidden Closet

Selina went to Alfred Angelo's today to pick up her wedding dress that she ordered back in October. We weren't expecting it to be in so soon, but the person at the store told Selina that since this is their off-peak season, orders tend to arrive faster. So now I have a closet in my house that I am not allowed to go digging through for the next 11 months. I guess the good news is that I at least got to pick the closet...
