August 2008 Archive
Today was officially our last day at our apartment. Sure, we haven't been living there since July 25th, but you are still considered a resident until you turn in the keys. That's exactly what I did this afternoon...well, after I picked up the last lonely lamp, the vacuum cleaner and one mirror that just couldn't fit in the car the last time we went to pick things up.
Even though it was small, the "pet park" was always poopy and our upstairs neighbors were smelly hippies with no sense of what it means to be a good neighbor, I can say that we had some good times there. It was our first apartment together, it's where our Ratchito came into our lives and it's where I proposed to Selina. We met a lot nice doggie people there, too. Yeah, happy times, happy times.
While it's a little sad to leave, we have a heck of a lot more happy memories just waiting to be experienced in our new little home. Good-bye apartment; hello house!

Today Selina and I found out that Ratchet actually doesn't mind getting wet as long as he is having fun doing it.
I turned the sprinkler on this evening to provide a small amount of relief to the poor back yard. Ratchet happened to be outside with me, and when the water started coming out, he decided to attack it. He got a face full of water, of course. Haha. When he wasn't trying to bite the streams of water, he was either rolling around in the grass or running around the yard like a madman. It was quite entertaining. I snapped a few shots of him in the yard that I will post soon, hopefully tomorrow.
So now we know how to kill two birds with one stone -- the two birds being watering the lawn and getting Ratchet some much needed exercise.

Tonight Selina and I will be painting the accent walls in the formal dining and living room. What color? Valspar's Boston Legacy! We picked up one gallon from Lowe's on Wednesday for $20. I think the color (which is what Valspar calls an "ultra premium") was on sale or something. Anyway, we both felt that the red accent wall, although stunning, was a little too played out. I mean really...it's like "whoopie, another red wall" these days.
So after work today we get to clean the walls in preparation for our little painting party. I think the only things we are lacking are the dropcloths and maybe a ladder. Liliana was supposed to call us back to let us know what she had available as far as painting tools (i.e. ladder and dropcloths), but I think she forgot about us. Silly Liliana.
We also managed to book our wedding photographer yesterday evening. Man, with all the whirlwind of activity centered around the house lately, I had almost forgotten that we still had a wedding to plan for. Anyway, her name is Carli and her company is called
Inked Fingers. We met her at Mozart's to talk and see examples of her work other than what was on the website. I think that out of all the photographers we talked to, we clicked with her the best on photo style and personality. It also helped that she was within our wedding photography budget. A few cups of coffee and a deposit check later and we had our date booked. Hooray!

I was all excited about the fantastic thunderstorms that Tropical Storm Edouard was supposed to be bringing to the area. I've been trying to keep the lawn alive using the least amount of water possible in hopes that Mother Nature would help me out.
Looks like I came up craps on this dice roll.
Unless something drastic happens tomorrow, it appears as though the only thing we might get out of Edouard is more humidity. Thanks for nothing, jerk. My crunchy lawn thanks you, too.

What exactly are people thinking when they name their son Guy? How completely unimaginative and lazy. Reminds me of when my cousins where little and had a cat and a dog named (surprise) Cat and Dog. The difference is that my cousins were in elementary school and the parents are definitely not.
If you are going to name your kid Guy, why not just go all out and name him Boy or Man...or even Dude? Heck, just skip nouns all together and use some pronouns like I, Me, We or Us.
